Sea Transport is More Climate Friendly than road or rail transport

Many Customers Are Now Preferring to Ship Vehicles by Sea over Road Transport

Did you know, it can be up to 40%-60% cheaper to ship a vehicle by sea when compared to rail or line haul (truck) services? This is because, unlike rail and road, sea freight is charged based on dimensions regardless of the weight of the vehicle.

Aside from cost, one of the main reasons why many prefer sea freight for vehicle transport (over road and rail) is because their vehicles are effectively “sealed” from the environment. I.e all transport is enclosed transport.

This means the risk of damage commonly seen with road transport, such as insect debris, red dust, grime and stone chips is considerably lower and virtually non-existent.

Similarly, because of the requirements for rail and road cargo to be either containerised (enclosed) or loaded into rail wagons, large machinery is not permitted on the rail system due to the fixed width of rail paths and height of bridges.

With coastal shipping services, oversized cargo can be more easily accommodated where vehicles that are both taller and wider than a standard truck can be effectively loaded on a vessel and transported via sea. All at a cost that is far lower when compared to the road service

Furthermore, improvements in energy consumption of sea-going vessels means that sea transport is considerably more climate and environment friendly than road or rail transport.
